My early career as an accountant lasted a mere 12 months as I discovered the exciting world of publishing and decided it was more for me. I worked for Robert Maxwell in the late 80s and early 90s firstly in a customer publishing business and then at The European Newspaper. I joined Future Publishing in Bath soon after Maxwell drowned at sea (my hasty departure from London had nothing to do with the tycoon’s mysterious death) becoming publisher of the music titles there. I joined Origin at the very beginning in 1997 rising to become managing director in 2004.
